Hold me

Listening to: Smog – A river ain’t too much to love

Watercolor on gesso.

The world is alive. Even outside. Odd inside. Inevitable either way.

Last night I sat on my tiny ship sanctuary and watched a monarch butterfly beating itself against the bright light. I pleaded with it to stay safe. And I quickly doused the light. I sat stunned. Wondering why a butterfly was flying at night. And where it had gone once my light died. I’m still wondering today.

Give me your word that you’ll hold me. Give me your hand if you really mean it. Harbor us from the approaching winter. The bearing trees shedding their leaves, warmth from the safety of your heart, and the burning light that draws us all.

“Oh! Do I feel like the mother of the world…”

Chicago dreaming

September 22, 2008 | 1 Comment

The best dreams are best dreamt while awake. Very awake, and very alive. And, though I’ve been silent around here, it was unavoidable. I was in Chicago with my two dream men. BD and Paul Weller.

I am an urban girl, really. And it has been so long since I was in a place so perfect in its cityness. Canyons of skyscrapers, old and new stretching out and up. Punctuated with pubs and galleries and music and streams of people getting to where they should be going.

In our case, we were going up!

As pink evening fell over the full moon town we drank cosmos and prepared to make our way through the electric streets, over the river to the House of Blues. My feet never touched the ground.

Floating at the railing in the intimate room I was face to face with the voice that has come to permeate my soul. No cameras…but a sneaky shot nonetheless.

I saw a fair amount of sneaky phone videographers capturing the moment, and I’ve been checking daily for a glimpse of our evening…but I can’t wait forever, so I leave you with a clip from the Sydney show….and a song that I had the great good fortune to see live.
